Today, we want to LEARN how we get wisdom and understanding.

Let’s Pray

Oh Lord, open our eyes today. We know that when we really see, Your Truth will change us profoundly. We know we cannot see without Your help, so we ask that You remove our blinders, and allow us to see correctly. May we treasure what You show us and bury it deep within our hearts. Thank you! (Psa 119:11)

LOOK at What God Says

Let’s pick up where we left off yesterday, letting GODcha point the way. Remember to LISTEN and Respond to God, LIVE it out!

Where shall we start?

READ God’s Word

Read James Ch 3, verses 13-18asking the 5W’s and H to put you in context. Read out loud, saying it and hearing it helps you remember it.

Do you remember our key word definitions?

Reflect back on why ‘the fear of the Lord‘ is the key to ‘wisdom’ and ‘understanding’.

God Uses Truth To Explain Truth

Let’s pick up where we left off yesterday and continue to LOOK at what God says about ‘wisdom‘ and ‘understanding’.

1. How do we get wisdom and understanding?

Search for wisdom and understanding, THEN you will discern [understand] the fear the Lord and discover the knowledge of God(Pro 2:1-6)

Acquire wisdom, acquire understanding. (Pro 4:5-7)

Pray, ask God for wisdom. (Jam 1:5)

LISTEN…

Am I diligently searching for wisdom and understanding?  How?

Do I ask God for wisdom, believing He will give it to me?

What is happening as a result?

How do I make a concentrated effort to apply God’s wisdom to my life?

Respond to God…LIVE it out!

2. Where do I search for wisdom? What does wisdom lead to?

From childhood you have known the sacred writings which are able to give you the wisdom that leads to salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. (2Ti 3:15)

We see: wisdom is known through the sacred writings, the Word.

We see: wisdom leads to salvation.

Understand: to have God’s wisdom is evidence of salvation.

LISTEN…

Do I know the sacred writings, God’s Word?

Has God’s Word, His wisdom, lead me to salvation through faith in Christ?

Respond to God…LIVE it out!

3. When saved, what is a believer’s wisdom?

aChrist is made unto us wisdom. (1Co 1:30); (Col 2:3)

b. We are sealed with the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of the LORD who is called the Spirit of wisdom. (Isa 11:1-2); (Eph 1:13-14)

c. The Word gives wisdom and makes wise. (Psa 19:7)

Understand: God offers us wisdom. When you receive Jesus Christ, who is made wisdom, you are sealed with the Spirit of wisdom, thus receiving the wisdom of God, causing you to hear and obey God’s commands.

LISTEN…

Have I come to Jesus, in whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom?

How intentional am I to engage with God and hear the Holy Spirit teach me wisdom through the Word of God?

Is God’s Word a priority in my life? How so? How is it making me wise and understanding?

Respond to God…LIVE it out!

You might search out wisewisdom, and understanding in GODcha’s Word Search? See the Word Search Tutorial.

You have an awesome tool right at your fingertips. Oh, try it! Use it! When you have time, check these words out.

Check out ‘the fear of the Lord‘, by typing in ‘fear‘ – you will be amazed at what God shows you!

LIVE it out…Make it practical!

Getting God’s Wisdom takes time.  It is a choice for each one of us! It is a daily, seeking! A deliberate, conscious, decision to spend time with Jesus, hearing Him speak directly to you from God’s Word of Truth, not man’s. Learning to pour your heart out to Him in the different situations He brings your way, asking for His wisdom! Letting the Holy Spirit lead you and guide you into His Wisdom!

What Have We LEARNED

Sum Everything Up!

Wisdom is:

From above. God is the source of wisdom and gives it.

The Key to Wisdom and Understanding is:

The Fear of the Lord

The Fear of the Lord is – Wisdom

The Knowledge of the Lord is – Understanding

To depart from evil is – Understanding

To Know God is to Fear Him.

Believers Are God Fearing

God’s wisdom is the evidence of salvation.

Believers:

Receive Jesus Christ, who is made wisdom.

Are sealed with the Spirit of wisdom.

Depart from evil, hear and obey.

Must search and acquire wisdom.

Ask for wisdom in faith.

Fools Despise Wisdom, Instruction, and Knowledge.

We see:

  • Wisdom begins with the knowledge of God and is given to those who fear Him.
  • Wisdom is applying that knowledge.
  • Wisdom isn’t what we know, it is how we live.
  • The evidence of a believer is God’s wisdom.
  • Apart from Christ, there is no way anyone can have the divine wisdom of God.
  • The wisdom of God is related to one’s relationship with God.

“We are brought into the divine wisdom of God through the fear of God, leading us into a relationship with God through Christ who is made wisdom to us, and lead into the knowledge of God through the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of wisdom, who causes us to turn from evil and obey God.” John MacArthur

Again I want to emphasize that nobody told you what the text says or means. Nobody told you what to believe or think.  You didn’t guess or come up with speculations to answer the questions. You LOOKED at what God says, discovering what He means. You Discovered Truth for Yourself!

I am so proud of you!

We Are Done for the Day!

Shut out the world, and be quiet before the Lord. Think deeply about all He has shown you in these verses until these Truths become real in your thinking and belief. God loves you, talk to Him!

Record Your Discovery

Typing what you have LEARNED helps you bury Truth down deep into your head and heart. I also put the Definitions and Cross References next to these verses in my hardbound Bible.

Turn What We LEARNED into Prayer

OH HEAVENLY FATHER, AND BLESSED LORD JESUS, OUR MASTERS, and HOLY SPIRIT – GOD in three persons, we praise You! Apart from You, Lord Jesus, we can not possibly have divine wisdom. I pray all of us who are on this journey, have been ushered into Your wisdom because we fear You. That we have entered into a relationship with You through You, Lord Jesus, who is made wisdom to us. Thank you for sealing us with Your Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of wisdom. And thank you Holy Spirit for leading and guiding us into the knowledge of God giving us understanding daily.  Thank you for giving us ears to hear Truth and act upon it. May we all turn from evil, and bow in submission to You Father, desiring to obey You. Help us to be wise applying what we learn to our lives. May we live in the light of what You teach us. O Spirit make us like Christ, in whose name we pray! Amen!

Next: we will LOOK at the evidence of true wisdom.
